. What equipment and clothing should I wear?
For the hiker’s comfort and safety, it is important to pay attention when choosing equipment. When hiking, you can get into very hot or very cold situations, stony or slippery terrain, etc. Therefore, it is important to be properly prepared for all these situations, and you can find good equipment for sale in sports or mountaineering stores.
1 – Appropriate clothing
The use of comfortable clothing suitable for the season is also important. Trails are not always recommended throughout the year, but when visited at different times, they present different landscapes and characteristics, so different that sometimes it is questionable whether the route is the same! Long pants are always advisable to protect your legs from possible scratches.
2 – In autumn and winter, a windbreaker or a raincoat always comes in handy.
In addition to preventing the wind from disturbing your clothes, the windbreaker also prevents you from getting wet if the weather is humid, foggy or rainy. The waterproof ones can also serve as a warm-up jacket, when the weather demands it.
3 – Appropriate footwear.
The pain in the feet in the middle of a walk is extremely uncomfortable… It takes away from the beauty of the landscapes and the day that were so far fabulous, often forcing you to turn back or delay the group. Always wear sports shoes, if possible thick-soled mountain boots.
4 – Cap or hat – MANDATORY element!
Protecting your head from the sun’s rays, and even your eyes (even if you wear sunglasses), is really important. The tendency towards dehydration is greater (in hot seasons), in addition to contributing to the conservation of body heat on the head, in case of wearing a hat (in cold seasons – it is through the head that the human body loses most of its energy). heat). Nor would it be too much to apply a sunscreen on exposed skin areas, such as the face and hands or arms, at any time of the year.
5 – Backpack with 2 handles.
It is in this equipment that one or another piece of clothing is carried (another t-shirt, an extra pair of socks, a warm sweater), some food, water, a compass, the camera, the field notebook, a small kit of first aid, etc. It is essential that it be small and with 2 adjustable, padded straps (lap strap backpacks should be avoided, as they contribute to spinal imbalance, making walking less comfortable).
. Basic rules to consider when doing any of the routes?
Even though it’s very easy, never do a route alone. There is always the possibility that something will happen to you, like spraining your foot, falling, feeling sick, etc. If you are alone, it will be more difficult to ask for help. Generally, the routes move away from the communication routes and we are more isolated, something could happen to us in areas where no one hears us, in case we need help. What’s more, the shared experience is more enjoyable!
2 – Try not to leave the trails that are marked.
The risk of getting lost is high, don’t risk it! Preserve the traditional paths, and when passing along or on private land (which kindly authorized the trail), respect the property, do not destroy fences or trample cultivated land.
3 – During the walk, do not make noise…
Try to behave well, so that your passage through the visited areas is not felt by the animals that live there. Thus, the chance of observing them is always greater, if not scare them away.
4 – Take binocular lenses!
The observation of animals such as foxes, eagles, storks, or treetops or mountain tops, will be more feasible with the help of this equipment.
5 – When encountering cattle on the way, do not make sudden movements!
The best and safest attitude is to pass by the cattle calmly, because despite the meek air they present, when getting irritated, for example, an ox that is on its way home, this animal is capable of not liking to meet it on its way… so if there are puppies, there’s one more reason not to bother them anyway!
6 – NEVER leave your rubbish wherever you go!
When preparing the backpack for the tour, place 1 or 2 plastic bags for garbage collection – empty water bottles, food scraps, packages, napkins, etc. In this way, the soil and watercourses are preserved. Exercise the maxim: “On a walk, never take more than photographs, never leave more than your footprints or kill anything but time”.
7 – NEVER build Bonfires!
When a bonfires is formed or a fire is lit, it may accidentally cause a fire. Bonfires should only be made in places intended for this purpose, for example, on grills in picnic parks, and you should never leave the place without making sure that the bonfire has been properly extinguished.
8 – Whenever possible, talk to the inhabitants of the places where you pass.
In addition to being a friendly attitude, the information that can be obtained from it is always an added value for the visitor, who discovers interesting things about the places he passes through. The memory of the tour is more pronounced after the established conversation! However, do it without disturbing the tranquility of the inhabitants.
9 – Do not collect plants or flowers!
Their beauty belongs to where you find them. When pulled out, these die and lose their beauty, in addition to the fact that the place where they were is also impoverished. Take pictures or draw them in your field notebook, forever preserving the beauty of that flower or plant found on that walk.
10 – Respect others, as well as the historical and cultural heritage.
Walk with the necessary precaution to avoid accidents with yourself or with other hikers, in addition to the fact that, when using the services of a guide, this guide must never be overtaken, and his instructions must be listened to and heeded. Also avoid actions that lead to the degradation or destruction of the observed and visited heritage.
11 – Whenever you feel tired, stop and rest.
There are no time trials or competitions on hikes. In a group of hikers, the real ones always accompany their colleagues, and they don’t compete to see who gets there first! The main objective of the walks is contact with nature and the heritage found, in a relaxing and healthy way!
